The Scottish shopper has found a new destination to get the best value for their products. The buzzing New York is the new shopping hub which these Scots are finding interesting these days, well New York is giving them some best deals this Christmas. It is known that with the weak nature of dollar more and more shoppers are heading towards New York. This has made the passenger traffic to raise all of a sudden between the Big Aphple and Edinburgh and Glasgow these days.

The reason for the sudden increase in the passenger traffic in New York is due to the exchange rate which remains at $2 to the pound attracting shoppers to have a grand shopping experience this festive season. To facilitate the shoppers to travel easily Continental Airlines is operating daily flights between New York Newark and both Edinburgh and Glasgow. It is also noticed that shoppers are getting a decent bargain too in here.

With the rapid increase in the number of passengers, one of the spokesman for BAA Scotland informed that last month about 1.6 million passengers traveled through Scotland airport. Even heavy traffic has been reported from the Edinburgh airport. Shoppers are making really the most of the cheaper rate and are hurling on to grab this opportunity.

It is known that Christmas is just in the offing and all Scots are looking to buy gifts for their near and dear ones and the drop in the currency rates giving them a great benefit, which is giving them the opportunity to have a quality shopping experience without burning more money. It is predicted that this shopping spree will continue for another few weeks. But all this has shown that apart from a rise in passer count in Edinburgh and Aberdeen airport, Glasgow airport traffic has shown some downward trend, but still it’s the Scottish shopper who are making the most of the time.

Fear factor against Muslims in Scotland

Published by Pradeep under Every Day, General

Fear factor against Muslims in ScotlandScotland, Dec 13: The increasing rate of terrorism particularly the involvement of Muslims in the attacks has led to the discrimination in Scotland. The number of Scots who grasp discrimination has increased soon after the terrorist attacks in London. The increased rate of immigrants in the recent years has also fuelled this attitude. The latest survey shed light on to this fact.

The increased immigration rate from all over the world has widely influenced the social make-up of Scotland, the latest survey of attitudes showed the majority of people are willing to stick on their own cultural identity. The government’s initiative to tackle this menace has failed to bring in the desired result as people are stern on their stand.

Nearly half of the people included in the survey consider Muslims as a cultural threat and the one among the five feel that the ethnic minorities would take their job. Meanwhile the equality groups opined that this kind of attitude is unacceptable in the 21st century and requested the ‘silent majority’ to speak out against this mindset.

It is estimated that the Scotland needs at least 20,000 immigrants each year to overcome the collapse of the economy in the next 30 years. The discrimination attitude is posing threat against this inevitable immigrant requirement. Keeping this in mind the Communities Minister, Stewart Maxwell assured to intensify the government initiatives to deal with the discrimination.

The survey titled as The Attitudes to Discrimination in Scotland included 1600 people from all over the Scotland the survey is conducted between August 2006 and January 2007. In general 65 percent of the samples expressed their desire to make Scotland free from all these intolerant mentality. Meanwhile 29 percent disagreed that this kind of outlook is common among people with low educational qualifications.

The consultant of the Scottish Centre for Social Research, Professor John Curtice opined that this kind of attitudes is due to the ongoing war against terror after the attacks on London in the year 2005.

In an early survey conducted in the year 2006, more than 50 per cent of the people feared that Scotland will lose its identity if more and more Muslims settle in Scotland. The spokesman of the Muslim Council of Scotland and the Scottish Interfaith Council said that the discrimination is not a prejudice it is a reality. If this tendency proliferates it will pave the way for social unrest.
