Once again the health worries are making the Scottish people restless; in a study it was revealed that, Scottish teens are substituting their healthy meals to snacks and other junk foods. It was found that the secondary schools are not trying out sufficient measures to tackle this growing problem. The lack of concern and control to these eating habits has lead to such an adverse situation for teenagers.

The schools are now required to come up and check the availability of fruits and vegetables in school lunches and also to watch out whether the children are actually consuming these healthy diet or not. To change the diet of the teenager may be an uphill task, but that is what these schools are required to do in order to take them to a healthier life.

It was known that the situation is normal in primary schools where pupils have a healthy and balanced diet. Meanwhile the children minister Adam Ingram said that, the school meals are getting better in Scotland. Several previous researches and studies have highlighted how unhealthy eating habit has placed Scotland with one of the second highest obesity rate in the whole world. In such situation one needs to impart a healthy eating culture from the grass root.

With such a pity state, the government is trying out all steps to ensure the country embrace a healthy tomorrow. There are also plans to roll out a national food policy for Scotland soon. So if these planning works out then the day is not far when Scotland would shine as healthy country.

Hector computer will revolutionise the research works

Published by Pradeep under Every Day, General

Hector computer will revolutionise the research worksScotland, Jan 15: In an attempt to keep up with the changing technology the new computer which is considered as the largest and most powerful one will soon be unveiled in Edinburgh.

The computer named Hector (High End Computing Terascale Resources) has the ability to perform 63 million calculations in a second and is four times faster than its former versions and it is equal to 12000 desktop systems. The project is budgeted at £113m will work for six years and will help the scientists to develop life saving drugs, model climatic change and epidemic patterns.

The similarity of the features of the super computer will help in exploration and discovery and help science to reach higher level. Researchers feel that the Hector will play an important role in helping the scientists in their research works.

While commenting on this a spokesman of Edinburgh University said: “By adding the possibilities of the super computer the route of exploration and discovery has moved science to another level. Hector will continue this process to the next level. It will help the UK researchers in solving complex scientific disciplines. This includes weather forecast, ocean current fluctuation, spreading of epidemics, designing and developing new medical drugs.

Dr David Henty the group manager of Edinburgh University’s parallel computing centre said: “Hector will keep British scientist at the cutting edge. The new trend of researches makes use of the possibilities of the latest computer technology to simulate things that ranges from sub-atomic particle to the whole universe. It is capable to perform what you want it to perform.”
