Scotland, Mar 8: A new report has revealed that the pupils in Fife are more obese than the students from other part of Scotland. The particulars of the findings were released by Dr Gina Radford and it indicated that over a quarter of primary one pupil in 2005/06 were obese. On the backdrop of this the Fife council reported that adequate measures were taken to tackle the issue that includes projects encouraging the habit of healthy diet.
Many initiatives were already on fore to equip children to develop the skills to take healthy decisions. The projects include healthy tuck shops, supplying fruits in schools, promoting exercise in schools and community. There are several Public issues that have to be considered while tackling this issue.”
Vibrant school co-ordinators were appointed to attract young people to become active participants. Over 15 per cent of the children surveyed are considered to be obese and 11 per cent were extremely obese. The survey covered the whole of the NHS Fife region and is submitted to the social work and health committee of Fife Council.
The area that have lowest obesity rate was Argyll and Clyde with one among five children as obese. Responding to this Councillor Douglas Chapman said that: “We want children in Fife to be healthy. This matter deserves great importance as the healthy youngster will built healthy tomorrow”.
Figures also showed that obesity remains as a threat among adults. According to earlier studies conducted in the year 2003 adult women were noticed to have above average body mass index (BMI). Before five years it was 50 per cent lesser.
