Jockeys facing hard times while dieting
March, 10
Research has revealed that those jockeys who try to slim down for races are more likely to risk themselves of eating disorders. The study suggests that while trying to reduce their weight for the races, these jockeys faces depression. It was also noticed that this dieting had an impact to their mood, which made them more anxious, confused and angry.
Meanwhile they were more relaxed and normal while they were at their optimal weights and with no forthcoming races. This fasting before the races had an unusual impact on their nature and mental levels. The different ways these jockeys use to be less weight not only include dieting but also makes them to go under an array of treatments. The jockeys have to spend over two to three hours in sauna and hot baths, making them feel as if they are micorwaved. Even they have to take laxatives and other drugs to maintain that weight.
All this had disturbed the psychological balance of these jockeys and made them feel more depressed. The study also found that even the jockeys have to go on runs before having their breakfast. And are directed to intake all low calories foods, along with this other daily routine have been fixed for these jockeys for being fit for race.
This new trend has hampered the confidence and mental levels of these riding heroes, and if this growing trend continues in near future then soon these jockeys would require a psychologist.
