Noise squad to check high decibelsScotland, Mar 18: Listening to music remains as a passion for many among us. Whether Rock, Pop or jazz what ever may be the form of music hearing that in high volume has become the habit. The innovation in technology has paved way for several advanced music systems that offers perfect sound clarity in high decibels. How good is the habit of listening to music in high volume to your ears?

People in Edinburgh are offered a chance to understand the impact of MP3 players in their hearing ability. The charity for deaf is taking initiatives to find out the extent of hearing problem it will create in people. While Royal National Institute for Deaf (RNID), has given shape to a special squad named Don’t Lose the Music Squad that will check whether the people listen to music very loudly.

While commenting on this Delia Henry, Scotland director of RNID opined that: “According to World Health Organisation prolonged hearing of sounds above 85 decibels will damage the hearing ability of a person. But last year alone 8.5 million MP3 players were sold in the UK with most of the players capable of delivering sound level of up to100 decibels.”

He further added that: “As part of the series of campaign organised by Don’t Lose the Music Squad of RNID is in Edinburgh to check how loudly people especially shoppers are listening to music. The squad will also give advice on how to protect their hearing ability.”

The initiatives were taken on the wake of a survey that pointed out that about 90 per cent of the youngsters in Edinburgh are affected by hearing problem after a heady night out.
