Perth Military Parade to take place Today

Perth in Scotland is all set to host the biggest Scottish Military Parade of 2010 as part of the Perth Day celebrations that will be conducted today.

Over 1,000 marchers from the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines, Veteran Associations and youth organisations will parade through Perth city centre which is a must-see event. They will be joined by four pipe bands and two military bands, as well as a variety of military vehicles from Word War II. The event is part of celebrations marking 800 years since the granting of the city’s Royal Burgh Charter.The parade has been organised by 51st Highland, 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (7 Scots), the Perth-based battalion which was granted the Freedom of the City earlier this year.

The parade will begin at approximately 11.35am from Rose Terrace, and process along Atholl Street, into Kinnoull Street, down High Street, into St John’s Place, down South Street, then along Tay Street to the North Inch where representatives of the Armed Forces will meet the VIPs.

The parade is one of the highlights of the Perth 800th anniversary celebrations. This is also a great opportunity for the public who otherwise don’t make contact with military to come along and get to know them better.

Dufftown Heritage Festival 2010 to be held on 3rd and 4th July!

Dufftown in Scotland is celebrating the 1000th Anniversary of THE BATTLE OF MORTLACH on 3rd and 4th July 2010. If you are happen to be on a visit to the country, this is a chance to visit major attractions and take part in the festival that happens once in a year. Dufftown is a vibrant and thriving Highlandduffrown community that has always in store a wide range of traditional Scottish activities and entertainment throughout the year. Set in the heart of Speyside in north eastern Scotland, Dufftown is situated on the banks of the rivers Fiddich and Dullan at the foot of the Conval Hills.

During festival days, that is on Saturday and Sunday, Dufftown has special programes organised for every visitor to take part. The Belvenie Castle is allowed free entry during these two days from 9:30 to 17:30. Tour of Mortlach Distillery (11:30-13:00)which is rarely open to the public will be opened on 3rd July with ticket entry. The Guests will be piped to Mortlach Distillery for a tour and then return to The Whisky Shop for a dram. You can get the tickets booked at the The Whisky Shop Dufftown Tel: 01340 821097. Heritage Parade from Church Street to School Park on Hill Street will be held from 12:00-13:30. During this event Community groups from across Speyside will come to Dufftown in fancy dress and parade in celebration of the many diverse cultural and historic elements of this area of Scotland. The procession will be led by the Dufftown and District Pipe Band. Anyone can watch it free. A battle re-enactment of the events of 1010(when the invading Danes were defeated by the armies of King Malcolm 11) and the 11th Century Living Village is conducted as an event(13:00-17:30 )at the school park. There will also be a craft fair, face painting, refreshments and lots more and you have to pay at the gate.

On Sunday (4th July)from 14:00-16:00, a guided walk will be held around some of the key sites associated with the events of 1010, taking in some other historical elements, including a few of the seven stills of Dufftown. Adults will get to enjoy a ‘mystery dram’ en route plus a complimentary dram in the Whisky Shop Dufftown at the end of the walk. Tickets can be booked at The Whisky Shop of Dufftown.
