Increase in dog attacks in Scotland places
If you are close enough to a walk, you may find a dog on the roadside but have you ever thought it might harm you or even disfigure your face, not to be recognised anymore? It is seen that Scotland has reported cases where fighter dogs or even other breeds harming children and hurting them while playing or taking the roads.
Not even a week, two cases have been reported in which one girl named Rhianna Kidd,10, was maimed by two rottweilers while she was cycling to her grandmothers home in Dundee. And another case where a vicious Akita fighting dog attacked a girl named Toni, when she was playing with the dog owner’s son, Gabriel.
In both the cases, the children suffered serious injury and lot of pain. In one case the owner of the dog was charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act in failing to keep the dogs under control. And in another case, the decision is yet to be taken because it was in the private property but what has been done to the children cannot be forgiven.
The Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010, extends the criminal liability to not just public places but also private places and it has not come into practice until February. It is also seen that the children could suffer mental scars and maybe frightened of the dogs the whole life.
Crime rate drops significantly in Tayside
Tayside is once again in the news, this time it’s for a good reason, the annual report of the force has shown that the crime rate in Tayside has dropped significantly. The drop is expected to be 12.5 per cent, which is the lowest level in a decade. This plunge in crime rate has come as a good sign for Tayside followed with a drop in the violence and robbery cases.
This was possible only because of the efforts put on by the dedicated and hardworking police force, who all were working really hard to achieve this goal. Along with local policing the police officials continued monitoring the cross-border drug enforcement, murder enquiries, missing person enquiries and many other cases. Keen study was conducted in each and every aspect, to curb the rise in crime rates.
It was noticed that, an overall decrease of 12.5 per cent crimes were reported, along with a drop of over 2000 victims of such crimes in Tayside. Other than that, violent crimes like, robbery and racist crimes also showed a substantial drop in this period. Vehicle crimes too showed a fall, which in all means came as a great achievement by the police.
Justine Curran, the force’s Chief Constable, expressed his happiness with this feat by his team and felt really pleased by the way things have turned around for Tayside. The fewer crimes and violence with high quality of local policing has made the place safe to live in.
Cut to single figures, the marches and parades in Scotland suggests police officers
Scotland’s top police officers had said that as the marches and parades in Scotland are increasing, so has the strain on them, it needs to be cut to single figures. Arising demands in tackling crime like domestic abuse has had police officers reducing such events and to let them pay for it as in the case of football clubs and others, if they are so keen on marching.
Calling for a reduction in such numbers, Les Gray, chairman of the Scottish Police Federation had said that in the year 2008/09, an amount of £1.7 million has been spent by Strathclyde with almost 50,000 officer hours being wasted.
Challenging critics to use a new method with almost 7000 cases of police assaults reported in the earlier year and with many of the cases not reported yet, Les Gray added that the use of Tasers to non firearms would protect the lives of the police officers.
With the increase in drink fueled and drug violent individuals storming the streets of Scotland, there should be the use of necessary equipments to disarm them who will be stocked with swords, firearms, axes, knives or other deadly weapons. So far many ideas have been brought up as to the usage of Tasers which can not only protect police officers but also life. Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill considers that different approaches such as Tasers should be accepted to bring more harmony than corruption and abusive behavior.

Parking fine goes up
Parking fines are said to be dearer from now on to keep a check to the offenders and boost the revenue for the government. This rise is slated in order to reduce the illegal parking of vehicles and to meet the cost of staffs. This move might have come as a positive move to keep a check on the illegal parking incidents, but has sparked a fury among the motoring groups.
Opposition even came from the Edinburgh transport leaders and Association of British drivers who termed this rise as outrageous. Reports also suggest that this revised fine on illegal parking would apply across six local authority areas, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Pert & Kinross and South Lanarkshire. It is told that Parking fine revenue in Glasgow has increased one fifth to £5.5 mn which is substantially higher than last year. Edinburgh too showed a rise in the increase in parking fine revenues.
With the hike in the parking fines to £100, it seems the parking system will be the cash cow for the council with better salaries and perks for the staffs. On the contrary the outrageous transport leaders and car owners are left to bear this extra burden of such soaring fines. Now it has to be seen will this increase in parking fines comes up as a smart move by the council or triggers more protest.
