Scottish textile and designs impress all in New York

It was all about creative designs and trendy style, at the “City Meets Country, Scotland Means Style” competition. This competition showcased the different creations of the students, from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York during the Scotland Week.

This colourful event was sponsored by the Scottish Development International, in which students were asked to design garments for evening wear, sports wear and city wear all using Scottish fabrics. Other than that, another competition to create a penthouse suite for the students of interior designing was also there.

The winners were later announced by the Minister for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop. The award for the winners included a chance to spend a week with one of the leading textile companies, along with a placement with one of the top Scottish interior design studio.

Being known for its fabrics, Scotland remains home to a mix of brands and fashion houses, which makes it a part of the fashion and textile industry. All the designs at the event were designed incorporating Scottish landscape and patterns, adding more charm to the show. There were all sorts of design and patterns including traditional style to contemporary collection of garments.

This show not only showcased the style and pattern of Scottish fabrics and designs in New York, but it also highlighted, the richness of Scotland at the global platform. It was also seen that, this show will also help the students of US to design more innovative and creative designs using Scottish fabrics.
